This web site contains information about HN Proficiency Testing, Inc. and the services we offer.
We are in the process of adding a number of tests in the electrical, physical, temperature and time and frequency fields. We expect to have these test ready to ship out beginning in February 2011. They are included on our availability page, so you can sign up for them already now.
The site has undergone a major update in November 2010. The purpose of the update is to give you better access to your test history, enable you to book tests without having to enter your contact information every time and allowing you to enter results without having to remember a separate login code for each test.
To use these new features, you have to create a login ID. When you create your login ID you have to enter your e-mail address. If you have used our services in the past, or have tests booked, and your e-mail address matches the one we have on file for you, you will automatically be linked to your test history and will not have to re-enter anything.
If you have not used our services before, you will be prompted to enter your contact information. Afterwards you will not have to re-enter it when you return to the site, or book new tests. Please note that we are not able to ship test packages out of the United States, so you must provide us with a US shipping address.
If you have ANY problems with the web site, please let us know, we can only correct it, if you let us know.
We are A2LA accredited. You can download our scope from the A2LA website. Or get our local copy.
Note that as of September 2011 all of our tests are covered by our scope of accreditation.
We are of course recognized by A2LA, as well as LAB, ACLASS, Perry Johnson Laboratory Accrditation and NVLAP as a way to satisfy their proficiency testing requirements. In fact, we are not aware of any calibration laboratory accrediting body in the US with proficiency testing requirements that does not recognize our tests.
Accreditation bodies generally require laboratories to develop a plan for how they intend to live up to the proficiency testing requirements. To help laboratories develop a plan, we have developed our on-line proficiency test planning tool. You can use it to generate and print a plan that you can present to your assessor and accreditation body. We offer an incentive of a 10% discount on the 2nd test, 15% on the 3rd test and 20% on subsequent tests, if you participate in a test at least every 6 months.
You can also e-mail or fax us your scope and we will help you develop a plan.
We require all participants to fill out a confidentiality agreement, to keep our reference values confidential and to allow us to ship packages directly from participant to participant. The agreement also binds us to keep your participation confidential, unless you tell us otherwise.
We accept the following credit cards for payments for proficiency tests:

How do you choose a proficiency testing provider? We have compiled a list of questions for you to use, when you try to decide. All our tests are covered by our A2LA scope of accreditation.
The paper "Experience Gained from Offering Accredited 3rd Party Proficiency Testing" was presented at the 2004 NCSLI Workshop & Symposium. The paper "Determining Consensus Values in Interlaboratory Comparisons and Proficiency Testing" by Henrik S. Nielsen won the "Best Paper on Theoretical Metrology" award at the 2003 NCSLI Workshop & Symposium and I presented the paper "Can Proficiency Testing Add Value" at the NCSL-I conference in San Diego in August 2002. There are no prizes for guessing what my conclusion is.
